OCTOBER Non-Profit Spotlight: Dream Big!

by

Our charity for the month of October is Dream Big! We asked Jenn Dragon a few questions about the organizations and why donations will be so important this month. Check out what she had to say!

  1. Tell us a little about your organization.

Founded in 2010, Dream Big! is a 501C3 non-profit organization that recognizes the importance of community involvement and physical health in the development of girls and young women. They provide opportunities for girls to not only participate in sports but also develop confidence, leadership skills and enhance overall wellness.

  1. What’s the mission of the organization?

The mission of Dream Big! is helping girls and young women from low-income situations to achieve their dreams by providing them with the equipment, sports attire, program and college showcase fees and leadership training needed to enable them to participate in sports and physical activities that contribute to their health, education and overall well-being.

  1. Why is the work you do so important?

Regular participation in physical activity during childhood and adolescence promotes the development of positive body image, confidence, self-esteem and has been shown to improve academic performance and career success. It is an honor to help support these girls and watch them use what they’ve learned in sports to become strong, effective leaders within their own communities.

  1. How will donations from TQC help this month? What specific things will donations support?

In just 11 years Dream Big! equipment and sports attire grants, program scholarships, college showcases, sports clinics and the Dream Big! Leadership Conferences have had a direct impact on over 55,000 girls and young women in underserved communities. Current Sponsor a Dream program requests include women’s basketballs, softball gloves, running sneakers, bicycles and program fees.

  1. How can someone get involved with your organization?

There are many ways to get involved in Dream Big! including volunteering, individual or corporate giving, “sponsor a dream” program, hosting an equipment drive or fundraising event. Donations can be in the form of sponsorships, cash donations, new equipment, new sports attire, new footwear or gift cards to sporting goods stores.

  1. Why is Worcester and its community special to the organization?

Dream Big! began here in Massachusetts and reaches girls all across the country. Not only do the girls and young women benefit from participating in sports but the community benefits as well as this programs creates opportunities for girls to learn skills to become leaders and ultimately give back to their own communities in various capacities.
